Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, generating strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Homeowners reported large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, around 1,000 residents in the southern state also faced energy failures after Melbourne saw its wettest day in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, mainly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Werribee region - saw considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

During the peak on yesterday, over 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Medical authorities warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
